Hello everyone!

Today we are giving you 5 products you MUST have for winter!

Winter is a beautiful time and we should celebrate it instead of dreading it. We live in Canada so we are very used to cold and harsh winters.

Nevertheless, these winter essentials helped our skin, mood, and health stay intact despite the change in weather.

So let’s get into it!

1. Silk Pillowcases

A silk pillowcase is a skincare AND hair care must-have! Sleeping on a silk pillow dramatically reduces the amount of friction on your hair and skin which can reduce split ends and breakage and prevent wrinkles. In conjunction, a silk pillow will not pull moisture from your skin and hair in the way that a traditional cotton pillow would, keeping your skin soft which can be difficult in cold weather.

2. Sweet Almond OilShea Butter

Sweet almond oil and shea butter are holy grail products that will keep your skin feeling smooth and soft during winter. This oil is rich in vitamin A, vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, and zinc! These help with skin tone, sun damage, the appearance of scars and stretch marks, acne, and dry skin. Shea butter is very similar as it is also high in vitamin A and vitamin E. It can be used for acne, inflammation, itchy skin, razor bumps, and can be used on your hair! We would recommend unrefined yellow shea butter because it is less processed and therefore contains more vitamins. Be careful not to apply too much or else you will end up feeling very greasy. We prefer to apply shea butter after lotion as a “sealant” and before bed.

3. Humidifier

When winter comes around, most of us in the northern hemisphere have the heat going on full blast! Although we feel warm and cozy, central or space heating can significantly dry out the air and dry out your sinuses and skin. Adding a humidifier can increase the air quality, help you sleep, and prevent your skin from drying out. It can also act to relieve ailments such as headache (from sinus congestion), dry throat, nose irritation, dry cough, and cracked lips.

4. Vitamin D Supplements

Wintertime = daylight savings time. In comparison to summer when we receive hours less of daily sunlight! This means less vitamin D which is very important in keeping your bones, muscles, and teeth healthy. We recommend taking daily vitamin D supplements (of course consult your doctor first) to help fight this wintertime deficiency! You can also opt to add more vitamin D-rich foods like oily fish (salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel), red meat, liver, and egg yolks. Vegetarian options include fortified foods like cereal, tofu, oatmeal, plant-based milks, and yogurt.

Here are recipes that we like that contain a bunch of vitamin D:

Ricotta & Yogurt Parfait

Superfood Chopped Salad with Salmon & Creamy Garlic Dressing

Walnut-Rosemary Crusted Salmon

5. Snake Plant

Adding indoor plants to your space can help your place look more cozy and stylish but it also has health benefits! Some indoor plants are known for emitting oxygen which can help improve your air quality- which is important since most of us are inside during the colder months. Snake plants clean the air by absorbing any excessive amount of carbon monoxide and in turn emit oxygen and filter harmful molecules like benzene and formaldehyde from the air. Aloe vera plants also work in the same way!
